Mr. Dan Benson
American History & Government, Personal Finance, Economics 

Mr. Benson graduated in 1975 from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education. He then spent one year in Japan at Sophia University studying International Government and Politics. Mr Benson served his country in the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of Captain. He also spent several years as the 7th-12th grade facilitator at Crestview Christian Academy for O’Fallon Church of the Nazarene and recently retired from the City of Bridgeton police force after 25 years.

Dan came to Christ in 1976 while serving in the Marine Corps. His ministry in the Church has been as an adult Sunday school teacher, support group leader and church board member.

cindy bleikampMrs. Cindy Bleikamp
Pre-Algebra, Physical Science, Geometry
 

Mrs. Bleikamp graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She homeschooled her daughters for twelve years, helping two of them complete high school Calculus. She has been tutoring and teaching math classes for six years in the St. Charles area. 

For the past four years, she has finished the online Pi Day Math Challenge. In college Mrs. Bleikamp became interested in creation science and has read widely on all related topics. A love for research and crafts make Physical Science labs an easy match to her interests. For 25 years she has been involved with all things Awana at Grace Community Chapel and at the regional level.

Mrs. Bleikamp desires to see all youth come to “know, love, and serve” the Lord Jesus Christ.

Latin Rudiments 2, Latin 2

Dr. Bond received his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia with an emphasis in Classical Studies. He earned his Master of Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary and his doctorate at Whitefield Theological Seminary.

Michael has taught Latin at Liberty Classical School since its inception in 2000. He is also one of the pastors at Liberty Christian Church and leads the college youth meeting, Change the Globe, on Thursday nights at 7:00pm. His lovely wife, Andrea, is a constant source of encouragement and works alongside him in many of the church’s ministries.

Dr. Bond enjoys spending time with his four children (which means tickling, playing sports and playing card games). His interests include playing various musical instruments (he knows how to play five) and playing soccer. In his ‘spare’ time, you’ll find him in his favorite chair reading a good theological book.still no 007… Piper rocks!!

Intro to Computer Careers
Mr. Coumerilh grew up in St. Charles, Missouri then attended L.I.F.E. Bible College East in Christiansburg, Virginia where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Theology and also met his wife, Marla. After graduating, Mike and Marla worked as youth pastors in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2005, they moved back to St. Peters, Missouri for Mike to continue his education in Information Technology. He earned an AAS Degree in Computer Networking and CCNA Certification at Saint Charles Community College while their family grew from three to five over the next few years.Since moving back to the St. Louis area, Mr. Coumerilh continues to be involved in the community. Both he and Marla have been involved in Liberty Productions in various acting and production roles for many years, and he also served on his Neighborhood Association Board.  Besides his current role as the Technology Administrator for Liberty Christian Church, Mike also plays piano and guitar and has served as worship leader and Audio/Video Coordinator. Marla works at home raising their three children and enjoys homeschooling them. She also serves as Classical Conversations tutor at Liberty.Mike, Marla, and their three children are avid Cardinals fans; they have both run several 5k’s and two half-marathons; and they love to grill anytime there is weather – good, bad, or otherwise!

cheryl hotchkiss
Mrs. Cheryl Hotchkiss
Chemistry

Mrs. Hotchkiss has a Bachelor of Science in Microbial and Cellular Biology and another B.S. in Medical Technology, both from Emporia State University. Before her four children were born, she worked in hospital labs in Kansas and Texas and as a research biologist at Monsanto’s Corporate Research Laboratories. Cheryl homeschooled her children for twenty-one years. She also teaches piano and leads the children’s ministry at her church.

Cheryl loves both teaching and science and is blessed to be able to combine the two. She has a desire to see more Christian youth become future scientists in our culture.

Mr. Aaron Latinaa_latina
Experiencing Music 2

Mr. Latina is a professional composer, orchestrator and music director in film, musicals, commercial projects and movie trailers. He spent 16 years as a worship and music director at two different churches, the most recent being Calvary Church in St. Peters. He spends most of his time writing the music for films, documentaries and musicals and loves to teach others about how music works.

Mrs. Jeanette McCartneyJeanette_McCartney
Home Economics

After graduating from SIUE with a degree in Special Education, Jeanette McCartney taught in the public schools for 5 years. She has since been at home schooling her 5 children. Mrs. McCartney helped lead a group called  “Keepers of the Home” which focused on teaching young girls to be knowledgeable and creative in matters of the home. This group continued for a number of years with over 30 girls attending. Teaching these young girls helped her to realize how important it is to pass on skills that are not typically taught in a school setting.  Jeanette has also been a tutor for Classical Conversations for 2 years for an all girls class of 9- to 11-year-olds. Other teaching experiences include coaching gymnastics at GymQuarters for the past 5 years.

Jeanette and her husband, Sean, have been married since 1988 and have  5 children. The oldest has graduated from college with a nursing degree, while two are currently in college and two are still in school at home.

MollyCHMMrs. Molly Nesham
Physics

Mrs. Nesham, co-founder of the St. Peters Chess Club, has been teaching and tutoring Math and Science for more than 30 years.  Her two oldest children, homeschooled through middle school and part of high school, have finished college, but the younger two have been taught at home since the beginning.  Molly is an advocate for the “Thomas Jefferson” model of classical education for the raising up of leaders and lifelong learners.

Molly graduated from General Motors Institute, now Kettering University, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and then worked as a plant engineer for GM, implementing robots and automation systems and training on their use. While her husband finished college, she worked as a certified SME Robotics Engineer for several years. When her two children were attending Jubilee Christian School, Molly started teaching Science and Math there for Grades 7 through 12.  She later taught at Covered Bridge and West Bend Christian schools in Wisconsin, before the family moved to Missouri.

In 2006, Molly and her husband opened a Mathnasium Learning Center, but left the franchise in 2008 to expand the offerings and form BEST Tutoring and the St. Peters Chess Club.  Molly has also coached and mentored local Lego Robotics teams, and she has taught Chess, Logic, Geography, Math, and Science classes at LCS and other places, including public schools, the Learning Center , and homeschool co-ops.  To paraphrase Galileo, Molly sees Mathematics as the “language with which God has written the universe.”

Margaret_Porch_Mrs. Margaret Porch
Biology, Advanced Biology: The Human Body

Mrs. Porch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Although she does not have a degree in biology, she has a strong background in biological science and loves anatomy, biology, creation science, and teaching kids! Margaret has studied creation versus evolution in depth (including materials from Answers in Genesis and other Biblical creation resources) and holds a literal 6-day Biblical creation worldview.

She has taught high school Biology for the past eight years, both at the SCCHE Learning Center and every other year at LCS. Margaret introduced Advanced Biology: Human Anatomy this past year at The Learning Center, developing the course and labs based on Apologia’s book of the same name. Also, for the past 10 summers, she has taught a fetal pig dissection class in the summer. Margaret taught Creation Science for two years from 2008 to 2010, and is updating the class this year to incorporate more classroom labs and projects to give students a strong grasp of scientific analysis and a strong base in Creation Science.

Mrs. Porch has four children, all of whom have been homeschooled through high school and who are now in college or graduated from college, and she also has six grandchildren.  Margaret loves working with high schoolers and has a desire to impact them for Christ, especially in the areas of biological science and creation science.

Ms. Sarah Porzelts_porzelt
English Grammar & Writing
Ms. Porzelt is a young professional living in Saint Charles County. As a graduate of SCCHE, Sarah participated in choir, drama, and biology among other homeschool offerings. She has since obtained a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in English as well as an M.A. in Communications, both from Lindenwood University.Sarah has taught both English and Literature with Mondays at Grace and the Learning Center, and several of her students have gone on to receive top marks in their college courses. She currently teaches Microsoft Office at Saint Charles Community College.Sarah believes that homeschooled students should be well prepared for the formal classroom by the time they enter college, and teaches her classes with an eye towards her students’ future classroom experiences.

Ms. Bethany Rhineb_rhine
Introduction to Music

Ms. Rhine is a music educator and has been studying music all of her life. In 2015, she received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, Wisconsin.

Bethany is passionate about sharing her love for music and has been involved in a variety of teaching opportunities, including early childhood music classes, grade school general music and choir, middle and high school orchestras, middle school theory, college choir, as well as private violin, viola, and cello lessons.

Ms. Rhine is currently enrolled in continuing education classes at East Central College in Union, Missouri. She also teaches private string lessons at a music studio in Wentzville. In her free time, she enjoys practicing her violin and cheering on her hometown football team, the Chicago Bears.

David VaughanDr. David Vaughan

Dr. Vaughan is Pastor of Liberty Christian Church, founder/director of Liberty Leadership Institute and President of Liberty Classical School. David also addresses current and biblical issues through writing. He is a consulting editor for Saint Louis MetroVoice and Highland Books, and his articles have appeared in numerous national publications.

As a lecturer and community leader, David has appeared on nationally-syndicated television and radio, and he hosts the Encounter radio program on KSIV 1320 AM. He is a leader dedicated to the propagation of the Christian message by means of the spoken and written word.

Dr. Vaughan is a member of the National Association of Scholars, the Evangelical Theological Society and the Evangelical Philosophical Society. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master of Arts in Political Science, a Doctor of Arts in Christian Leadership, and a PhD in Christian Thought.

David and his wife Diane have four children: Hannah, Lydia, Ethan and Adam.

Diane VaughanMrs. Diane Vaughan
Health

Mrs. Vaughan received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Missouri in St. Louis. As an RN in past years, she has worked in the ICU step-down telemetry unit at two hospitals in the St. Louis area. Currently, she serves as Nurse Manager at Thrive (Pregnancy Resource Center) in St. Peters, Missouri, helping women make Godly choices. She received training through Alliance for Life and also performs limited obstetrical ultrasounds for clients in need.

Diane enjoys writing, and has written on biblical issues related to women for Saint Louis MetroVoice, a Christian news and events publication. She is also co-author of The Beauty of Modesty, Cultivating Virtue in the Face of a Vulgar Culture with her husband, David, who is the Senior Pastor at Liberty Christian Church. As the Women’s Ministry Director at Liberty, Diane enjoys encouraging women to lead a life of purity and honor before the Lord and has had many opportunities to speak at various women’s and youth groups.

Throughout her life she has been a firm believer in physical fitness and has participated in numerous local triathlons and has completed a half marathon. During training for a full marathon, she suffered a knee injury and had to turn in her running shoes. She still consistently swims and bikes. Diane believes that the body of a Christian believer is indeed the temple of the Holy Spirit and that we are to be good stewards of it in all areas: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. As such, we will be more likely to reach our God-given potential to bring Him the glory He deserves. Mrs. Vaughan is a home-schooling mother of four wonderful children and resides in O’Fallon, Missouri.

MHannah Vaughans. Hannah Vaughan

Ms. Vaughan grew up in an amazing family near St. Louis, MO.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies from the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) in 2012, where she studied French, Dance, and Sociology.Since graduating from UMSL, Hannah has spent time serving God overseas, teaching English and music, and working with survivors of human trafficking.  Having worked within the Fort Zumwalt School District, Hannah has become very passionate about education and watching students invest in themselves and tap into their potential in every area of life.  This fall she plans to pursue a Master’s in Counseling from Covenant Seminary while teaching at Liberty Classical School.

 

Dr. Kelly Helmick

Chemistry & ACTDr Helmick

Dr. Kelly Helmick is an experienced educator, having served in Christian schools for 5 years and the Francis Howell School District for 22 years. She graduated from Cedarville University in 1987 with a B.A. in Comprehensive Science. She received her M.A., Ed.S., and Ed.D. in Education Administration from Lindenwood University from 1999-2008. She holds Missouri teaching certification in math (7-9) and general science (7-12) in addition to principal certification (5-12). She has taught 8th grade math, algebra, geometry, life science, physical science, biology, Biology 2, chemistry, and physics. Dr. Helmick has also served as an adjunct professor at Missouri Baptist University. Dr. Helmick attends First Baptist Church Harvester. She has enjoyed serving Christ through the Awana ministry for over 30 years and has served on the Awana Missionary Ministry Team for several years.

Mr. Carpenter graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and minor in Fine Art. After graduating, Drew worked a few odd jobs, then found his calling in Information Technology. He is now a Release Manager with Enterprise Holdings, Inc.Drew grew up the youngest of four preacher’s kids in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville, Virginia. He then spent eighteen years in eastern North Carolina where his father still pastors today. After being hired by Enterprise in 2003, Mr. Carpenter moved to the St. Louis area with his wife, Lorrie and daughter, Kieriana. Their son, Andrew, was born soon after the move, and they now reside in St. Peters.Aside from his roles with the center, Mr. Carpenter sings and plays guitar on the Liberty Christian Church worship team, and he is on the church Finance committee. Still a country boy at heart, Drew enjoys the outdoors, photography, war history, hanging out with family, Cardinals baseball and music. Drew also coaches little league sports and finds time to unwind and stay in shape playing rec-league softball and basketball.

Stephen GruenderMr. Stephen Gruender, Director of Records

Mr. Gruender studied engineering at Washington University before graduating from the University of Missouri – St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Later he added a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Webster University.

Stephen, his wife and their two children are life-long residents of the St. Louis area. He is a Sr. Systems Engineer at Workforce Solutions, a division of Equifax Inc., located in the Westport area.

Along with his role at the center, Stephen enjoys participating in a number of ministries at Liberty Christian Church, including Belize mission trips, Master Plan community evangelism and the Igniting God’s Youth (IGY) youth ministry at 7pm on Wednesday nights.

Mrs. Christy Maloney, Board Member

Christy is the mother of four wonderful, active boys, Aaron 6, Peter 5, Timothy 4 and Stephen 6 months, and the blessed wife of Loran. She is a University of Missouri-St. Louis graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and certifications in Elementary K-1 and Special Education K-12. Mrs. Maloney worked at Children’s Hospital Child Development Center for 12 years where she taught two-year-olds and three-year-olds and Kindergarten. After she married and had children, she was an elementary teacher for Liberty Classical Center grades K-3 for a year teaching English, History and Science.

She currently enjoys coming up with activities and fun ways to teach her boys at home. Aaron is in first grade and Timothy is in pre-school. She attends Liberty Christian Church where she is actively involved in teaching the 3-5 year old Catechism class as well as helping manage the nursery. She loves teaching, reading, singing, and being a part of the work God is doing, not only in her home, but in her church.

Mr. Loran Maloney, Board Member

Mr. Maloney graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1996. He later earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Networking Technology while changing careers. In 2012, he began studying at Lindenwood University where he earned an MBA with an emphasis in Information Technology and a second emphasis in Management, accumulating almost 70 post graduate credit hours. He enjoys his career in IT in the role of Systems Administrator.

He is happily married to Christy, also a board member and former teacher at Liberty Classical Center. Loran is the proud father of 4 boys: Aaron, Peter, Timothy and Stephen, whom they home school.

Loran came to Christ in 1993 as an atheist after encountering Jesus while reading the book of Philippians. In addition to his role as a board member, he is involved in the Open Arms ministry at Liberty Christian Church. He also serves as Director of the church’s Zoé ministry.

tyler_01_smMr. Greg Tyler, Director of Student Affairs

Greg grew up on a cattle ranch in South Dakota and later moved to Tennessee to attend college and to learn how to fly. After graduating from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in business, he was employed by Tennessee and Iowa Airways, TWA and American Airlines.

He met his wife, Melinda, in college and they have three children, Asa, Stoney and Abbey. For the last eighteen years they have lived on a small farm in Clarksville where they enjoy God’s creation, gardening and hosting friends. When he’s not flying, Greg is working at US EnviroSolutions, his distribution company of sealant products or is in the field, baling hay for horses.

Greg has been involved with missions at Liberty Christian Church and has been on the Liberty Classical Center board for several years. Greg loves to worship the Lord, watch and play basketball, hold babies for mothers at church, drive tractors (any big equipment), hunt pheasant and enjoy his own children when they come home for a visit. His desire is to see Liberty Classical Center serve the homeschooling community, in order to make a positive change in the culture for Christ
